How to determine the proper strap width
Using a metric ruler, measure the inside distance between the lugs of your watch in millimeters (mm).
The example image shows a width of 22mm.
Sizes where the numbers are different indicate a tapered band. The first number is the width between the lugs (where the strap attaches to the watch) the second number is the width at the opposite end (where the buckle attaches and the tail width). The example image shows a width of 22mm.
The image to the left shows a width of 24 x 22
How to determine the proper strap width
There are two different types of addapters for the Apple Watch.1. The traditional, screw-in adapter. This is the style that came with the OEM leather strap.
2. The aftermarket spring bar adapter.
If your Apple Watch is 38mm or 40mm and you have screw in adapters, you will normally need a 22mm Strap.
If your Apple Watch is 38mm or 40mm and you have spring bar adapters, you will normally need a 20mm Strap.
If your Apple Watch is 42mm or 44mm and you have screw in adapters, you will normally need a 24mm Strap.
If your Apple Watch is 42mm or 44mm and you have spring bar adapters, you will normally need a 22mm Strap.
To verify the size of your adapters, use a metric ruler to measure the inside distance between the lugs in millimeters (mm).
The example image shows both traditional and spring bar adapters with widths of 22mm.
How to determine if you need adapters
If you have an Apple watch that came with the original leather strap option (see photo to left), you can fit The StrapSmith straps to it with out the use of after market adapters. You will need some patience and a pentalobe screwdriver to attach the new strap to the existing adapters. If you have an Apple watch with any other style of band i.e. the leather strap that fits all the way into the case, a rubber strap, a metal bracelet, or you simply don't want to have to swap out the adapters, then you will need a set of the after market adapters.
Adapters purchased from The Strap Smith, as part of a custom strap order, include installation on the strap as part of the adapter fee.
How to determine the proper strap Length
To measure, take a piece of string or a flexible tape measure (sewing type) and wrap it around your wrist where your watch would go. Measure the length, then check the chart below to determine your size.5.0" - 5.5" (12.7cm - 14.0cm) = 65mm x 100mm (strap length)
5.5" - 6.0" (14.0cm - 15.2cm) = 70mm x 110mm
6.0" - 6.24" (15.0cm - 15.9cm) = 75mm x 120mm
6.25" - 6.9" (16.0cm - 17.5cm) = 75mm x 125mm
7.0" - 7.4" (17.6cm - 18.9cm) = 80mm x 130mm
7.5" - 7.9" (18.9cm - 20.0cm) = 85mm x 135mm
8.0" - 8.4" (20.1cm - 21.3cm) = 90mm x 140mm
8.5" - 9.0" (21.4cm - 23.0cm) = 100mm x 150mm
Note: These sizes are approximate and depend on your personal preference. Furthermore, if you are a perfect fit on the OEM strap, which is normally 115/75, you will need to order a little longer as my straps are thicker than OEM and will fit a little shorter.
